in other news

i took a spinning wheel lesson last thursday.
i am addicted and now in the market for a used/cheap spinning wheel.
"cheap" and "spinning wheel" dont really go together, unfortunately.

well.

I'm going to ignore the fact that its been two months since I have even had time to contemplate writing or photography or making something. I am in my senior year of highschool... and while I REALLY don't want highschool to end, I am looking forward to the possibility that life might calm down a bit for me after this season. I know highschool is a piece of cake compared to college-but I can't help but hope that maybe the schedule is not so demanding? I know, probably not.
I am exaggerating a bit about my lack of free time... the hours left in my day after work/school/barn are usually taken up with tv. I know. I just love laughing and I have been watching Arrested Development-its SO GOOD. As is Raising Hope. I am going to start curbing down my tv time... I really need to.
I feel like not a minute has gone by that I have not had a million things on my mind. Projects, tests, grades, my job, needing a second job, gas prices, where did my knitting needles go, papers, practicing, and everything else under the sun.
That is one of my senior pictures... the only one my mom is letting me "show" because she likes the idea of a surprise. Why is "surprise" spelled with that first "r"? It looks funny.
Anyway... I just like Rocky in it. He is such a cutie and that is the last picture I have of this year's summer coat. He is well on his way to being a fuzzy teddy bear now. :)

not much is going on craft-wise over here... school has been keeping me really busy and then my remaining free time is spent on mindless internet surfing and tv watching.
I am going to have to work on that.

bracelet weaving

im starting an etsy store soon, and i want to sell these bracelets i weave.
they are fun to make and i really love them-i just dont know what to charge for them! any ideas?
i'm thinking price goes with size-how many beads wide a bracelet is. (example: 5 beads wide [right], $5- 7 beads wide [left], $7) is that too much, what do you think?
i am really excited about this :)

Something in the works.

and it actually has perfect colors for today! i started working on it last week, and i have finished a few more blocks since i took this picture. im following a quilting pattern from a magazine i unpacked-im pretty excited to see how it comes out. :)

happy fourth to all of my fellow americans, enjoy your day and take time to think about who you owe for your freedom. if there happen to be any service men or women-or family of them reading this: i thank you from the bottom of my heart for your selflessness and sacrifices. you have made our country proud and we all look up to you. thank you for everything you have done for us and given to us! xo-kendall

7.1.11

Has it really been this long? And February seems so long ago to me. I'm not too good at this blogging thing, am I! It seems I am always struggling with this, haha! I never was good at keeping a journal.
Well... A lot has changed. (To say the least)
My family moved, school will start up again soon, I acquired and lost a job that I loved (I had to quit because of our move), and I am missing my old life but loving my new one.
It's weird how much things change and we don't notice. When we do notice, it's shocking.
You can expect some new things to be happening around here :)
It feels like everything is finally moving, finally starting, finally happening, finally waking up.

[from leah]

a little while ago, leah and i decided we were going to do a small swap. she would knit me the scarf i had been drooling over and i would sew her a knitting needle case. i received her package a few weeks ago and i was waiting for some nicer weather to go out to take pictures of the lovely things she sent me... but i don't think warmer weather is happening for a while. so i took them in my bathroom, haha - classy! its the only place that i can get decent light in... so you might get a peek of our lovely teal bathtub!

(she surprised me with some beautiful gloves!)
(i periodically have to fight with my mother over who gets to wear them)
so, as you can see, she is a very talented knitter! she knits many more things other than scarves and gloves and she has an amazing eye for what colors and textures look good with what patterns. (if im right... everything in her etsy is knitted from patterns she wrote herself.) (?!?!?!)
go-give her stuff a look! she is an amazing photographer also :)
she also posted about what i sent her :)
..............................................................................
thank you, leah, for trading with me! i had a lot of fun and i really enjoy what you made me :)

"We have a fight on our hands and I am on the defensive. I have been on the defensive all my life; but when I am defending a thing I do not wait for the enemy to come and attack. When I find there is to be an attack; I go over and do the fighting in the enemy's territory. I shall not wait until he takes off his mask and comes out into the open. I shall shell him in the woods and make him come out." -William Jennings Bryan

this is a stray kitty that passed through our property for a few weeks.
she was so pretty and loved to be held; when you held her on your lap, she would curl up and put her head in your elbow crook! i haven't seen her for a week or two so i am guessing she found her way home... i miss her!
christmas is gone, time to start making plans and presents for next year!
{crazy patterns. my whole wardrobe!}
*I sewed this violin cover for my little sister. Crooked and lopsided-I know... but I am happy with how it turned out. (Considering the fact that all I had for a pattern was her violin! I just traced it out and tried my best to tailor it to the shape.) I am very fond of the fabrics I used... I'm glad that I have a lot more of it!*

so there it is. another year.
another year of getting used to writing a new number. (i never can remember.)
another year of growing and learning.
another year of laughing and crying.
another year of living.
..and i am looking forward to it!

a peek

here is what i have done so far on the ipod cozie project.
i have somewhat combined two of the Sometimes Crafter's Tutorials.
I modified this tutorial's size to fit an iPod touch/iPhone.
And this tutorial was my example for the quilting pattern.
i love how it looks so far, hopefully i wont mess up anymore!
last time i worked on it, i was so eager to finish it-i had to rip it up three times because i kept forgetting steps. ;)
i think it should be finished this weekend...

this is a bird's nest that i found in a windowsill, the nest was built up to the glass part of the window so i opened the window and now we have a cutaway of a nest. :)
...........................................................................................
fall is coming to virginia.
its so cool in the mornings,
and the sunsets feel different.
the leaves are changing, and some are falling.
i cant wait to see it again, but ill miss summer.
its a yearly struggle for me :)
...................................................................................
im starting on a lot of different projects, there is a lot that i want to do and a lot that i want to learn. its hard to juggle school, volunteering, and still setting enough time aside for making things. especially with all of the extra studying i seem to be doing lately.
im working on an ipod cozy. i think i might modify this pattern from The Sometimes Crafter to fit an ipod touch... it shouldn't be hard. i had so much fun making the original pattern that i want to make some more in addition to the ipod cozies!
ill try to remember to take pictures as i go along in case anyone wants to try the modified pattern for ipods.
